About the sessions

The technique breaks down each swimming stroke into small bite- sized movements which can be practised independently in order to build up to the full stroke. In the sessions, the focus is on your relationship with the water. You will learn how to move from being separate from it to achieving a sense of oneness and union with the water.

Often, speed is the only focus when swimming, which can exacerbate injuries, cause tension in the body and can be a very stressful experience. Swimming with the support of the water and awareness of our head, neck and back relationship is less likely to cause injuries and is a much more relaxing experience.

This technique is suitable for a wide range of abilities, from non-swimmers who have a fear of the water to competent swimmers/Triathletes who would like to improve their strokes and make their stroke more efficient.

I always work in the water with clients, so that I can communicate effectively, demonstrate and give guidance and support.

The Shaw Method

Steven Shaw, the founder of the Shaw Method, has spent over 30 years re-crafting the four main strokes based on the principles of the Alexander technique, into a way of moving through the water with a sense of grace and ease that is accessible to all. This work has health and well-being benefits that extend far beyond the pool. These include:

  • Improving posture and body awareness
  • Letting go of physical and psychological tension
  • Cultivating the ability to be more mindful and connected to the moment
  • Developing a sense of flow that can boost your creativity
